THE LAMBRAKIS FOUNDATION

The Lambrakis Foundation (www.lrf.gr) is a non-profit private institution of public interest. It aims at contributing to the development, growth and prosperity of Greece within the European and international context, by investing in education and lifelong learning. It addresses the increasing needs for human resource policies and human capital development, with a focus on the fields of education, individual and collective empowerment and lifelong learning, culture and sustainable development.

THE FOUNDATION’ S WORK

The activity of the Lambrakis Foundation (LF) involves

• research work and study papers
• creation and free distribution of educational resources
• extensive teacher training programs in fields, like ICT, innovation, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, volunteerism, school development etc
• training of adults in or outside the workforce (skills development, language or vocational training, literacy etc)
• projects on the empowerment, employability and social inclusion of vulnerable groups
• pilot projects in the fields of education, culture and development
• organization of conferences and seminars
• creation of awareness content and resources on a variety of issues linked to e.g. social cohesion, wellbeing, sustainable development, civic engagement, capacity building for individuals and for societies
• print and digital publications
• creation and support of national networks (e.g. of schools, teachers, youth etc)
• development and operation of the e-paideia educational portal (www.e-paideia.org )
• development and operation of themed internet sites.

Since it was founded in 1991, the LF has managed successfully more than 130 projects. It has the capacity to design, develop and coordinate effectively both small and large scale national programmes all over Greece, including remote rural or island areas and to work with partners from different countries. LF outsources from its extensive network of associate experts and researchers located all over Greece, who work closely with the management team to deliver the best possible outcomes. The LF invests in the continuous training and development of its staff and associates.

The LF’s interventions and projects are directly linked to the social context in which they are implemented, with a view to being applicable in the global market. Special care is taken to always include members of vulnerable social groups, while a significant part of the LF programmes is directly addressed to specific groups (e.g. people with disabilities, migrants, refugees, Roma, NEETs or long term unemployed etc.).

All of the LF’s projects have received excellent evaluations from external bodies (e.g. the European Commission, universities, consulting companies et al.). The Foundation has been repeatedly awarded and recognized for its quality of work.

BENEFICIARIES

All of the population residing in Greece are occasional or potential beneficiaries of the work of the Lambrakis Foundation, as its various programmes address individuals, from pre-school aged children to senior citizens. People benefit either by directly participating in one of the Lambrakis Foundation projects or by making use of the educational and other resources that the Foundation has made available over the years.

PRIORITIES

Education can play a critical role in introducing some of the changes needed, in order to find a viable way out of the crisis Greece has experienced over the last decade. In addition it can be a catalyst in facing global challenges, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic, which is largely powered by human irresponsible behavior. For this reason, the LF chooses to invest in education and life-long learning, with special focus on areas which promote sustainable development, social cohesion and progress, such as fostering civic engagement, entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity, employability and interculturalism.
