MSSION ANTHROPOS

Mission ANTHROPOS (www.missionanthropos.com) is a Greek non-profit, Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) which was founded in 2010 with the aim to provide free and without discrimination medical support to vulnerable individuals who do not have access to health care. To this day, Mission ANTHROPOS has carried out three missions to Ethiopia and one το Tanzania. Since 2012 the organization has been active in Greece, due to the financial recession and social crisis experienced in the country that led to a high number of needs in the Greek society.

The organization has realized the following programs:

  • Emvolia-zoume: children without insurance, not without protection (2012-2017). Through this program 5.707 children in total were vaccinated with 19.152  vaccines that protect them from 42.668 diseases in collaboration with one of the main public paediatric hospitals of the country, the Social Services of 26 municipalities all over Greece and 14 NGOs.
  • We care for the Elderly” (2018). A pilot program with the purpose of providing primary medical care to 112 elderly people residing in 4 non-profit Rest Homes in the Attica region, in order to provide them with a functional, dignified and higher quality of life. The program covered the medical needs of the elderly, by performing 930 medical procedures/treatments, while 123 medical equipment items and 1,100 consumables were offered, necessary for the operation of the Rest Homes.

The organization is currently operating the program:

  • Stiri-zoume: medical and pharmaceutical care for all” (2013- ) providing medical and pharmaceutical support to uninsured and/or financially weak individuals, children and adults, both Greek and refugees/immigrants in collaboration with a network of 85 partners which up-to-date extend to 10 prefectures. Since the launch of the program and until August 2020, a total of 2.239 requests have been fulfilled.
  • “We offer smiles to children” (2019-2020), with the aim of preventing and treating the dental needs of 452 children from vulnerable groups who come from the Social Services of 3 Municipalities, 3 Public Benefit Institutions and 3 non-profit organizations in the Prefecture of Attica. The goals of the program were the diagnostic dental examination, the provision of dental intervention and dental therapeutic treatment and the information and training about oral hygiene for both the children and their families. Through the program, 1,201 dental interventions  were performed, which covered the dental needs of 319 children.

The organization within 10 years of operation, has implemented 50 additional initiatives to support vulnerable populations according to the medical and humanitarian needs in our country, with the help of its volunteers and in collaboration with an extensive nationwide network of partners. To date, more than 14,000 people who are unable to meet their basic needs have been supported through these actions.

These initiatives include:

  • shipments of medical and pharmaceutical supplies and equipment to medical and social support other non-profit organizations for Greeks, immigrants and refugees
  • actions to support minors through the provision of basic necessities and school equipment
  • preventive Medicine campaigns, which address the medical and dental needs of children and adults of vulnerable social groups
  • offering medical training equipment to medical students
